The Mobile Electronics Competition Association, MECA, capped off the 2010 season on a high note at the World Finals Soundfest in Lebanon, TN on October 16-17th. The weather was perfect for the 168th event of the season, held at the James E. Ward Agricultural Center, with 145 vehicles participating in Sound Pressure League, Sound Quality League, Ride the Light, MECA Kids, and Show & Shine contests.
Arc Audio, the 2010 Manufacturer Member of the Year, sponsored the SQL awards. TermLab, MECA's official SPL meter, sponsored the SPL awards. Epsilon Group brands participated as Title Sponsor: Soundstream, Precision Power, and Power Acoustik.
With 49 SQL vehicles in the lanes, the most in MECA history, all indications are that Sound Quality is alive and well in the MECA club and contests. The SPL contests included 70 vehicles and, as usual, high scores and drama. Commissioner Steve Stern presented 300+ awards to MECAheads during the weekend, including an incredible trophy package for the Finals contestants, club awards, State
Champions awards, Members of the Month, and National Points Champions awards.
Mark Eldridge (Team MSE/JL Audio) from Bixby, OK was the big winner in SQL contests, with top scores in Sound Quality, SQ2 2-seat judging, and Install. Mark's name will be inscribed on the Culbertson Cup, the MECA version of hockey's Stanley Cup, which represents the best sounding system at Finals. Kirk Proffitt (Schil Acoustics/XS Power/Zapco) from Huntsville, AL won the RTA Freq Out and the $250 prize sponsored by AudioControl.
Eric Alexander (Team Livewire) from Canal Winchester, OH 4-peated as the Drive-by SPL Parade Gates Cup winner, with 134.4 dB in DB5 as the highest score in the contest. He also won the 7' trophy for the Sound Pressure League Best of Show with highest combined scores in SPL and the Drive-by SPL Parade contests. Macon, GA's Beau Boren (Incriminator/OH Generator) scored the highest SPL score with 165.2 dB in Radical X 2.
Robert Hilton (Audison/Hertz/JL Audio) from Canton, GA is the 2010 Competitor of the Year and the 2010 Grand National Points Champion.
Elite Audio in Spartanburg, SC is the 2010 Retail Member of the Year.
Tony Goza from Durant, OK, owner of Sound Creations and promoter for the Choctaw Casino Points Series is the 2010 Event Director of the Year. The Choctaw Casino Points Series is the 2010 Promotion of the Year, with the Choctaw Events Center chosen the Venue of the Year.
Retiring VA Event Coordinator, John Vrooman, was honored for his service to the club with the Alma Gates Lifetime Achievement Award.
Arc Audio, represented by Fred Lynch, was recognized as the Manufacturer of the Year for great support and participation throughout the season.
Zapco's Robert Rugani was presented with the 12 Volt Industry Award for exemplary support and participation, especially for Sound Quality League competitors.

MECA already has 40+ event on the 2011 schedule, and close to 200 events are forecast for the next season.
